In India, 1098 is the national, toll-free, 24/7 emergency phone service exclusively for children. Also known as Childline, it serves children in distress, such as runaways, child laborers, victims of abuse, or those who are abandoned. Any child or concerned adult can dial the number to request immediate assistance.
The service is an initiative of the Government of India's Ministry of Women and Child Development and operates under the Mission Vatsalya scheme. When a call is made, the Child Helpline Unit connects the child to emergency medical, shelter, or legal services.
